NAMI Utah continues to offer programs, support groups, and seminars online.
- Family & Friends free seminars are held on the 2nd & 4th Thursdays each month from 7:00-8:30 pm. Informs and supports people who have loved ones with a mental health condition. Meet other people in similar situations and gain community support. The seminar is led by trained people with lived experience of supporting a family member with a mental health condition. - In Our Own Voice, free presentations are held on the 1st & 3rd Thursdays from 7:00-8:30 pm. Insight into what it’s like to live with mental illness. An opportunity to hear open and honest perspectives and a chance to ask questions, allowing for a deeper understanding of mental health conditions. Register for free English or Spanish.
- NAMI Ending the Silence is an engaging presentation that helps audience members learn about the warning signs of mental health conditions and what steps to take if you or a loved one are showing symptoms of a mental health condition. Download a flyer and overview:
- NAMI Homefront is a free, six-session class for family, friends and significant others of Military ServiceMembers and Veterans. The class helps families comprehend what the Military Service Member/ Veteran is experiencing related to trauma, combat stress, civilian life, PTSD and other mental health conditions. Topics covered include mental health, communication, handling crises, treatment and recovery. Register for the online program here.
- QPR Training: Question. Persuade. Refer. 3 simple steps anyone can learn to help prevent suicide. Just as people trained in CPR can save thousands of lives each year, people trained in QPR learn how to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and help save a life. Online trainings are scheduled for the 3rd Thursdays of each month from 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm.
- NAMI Peer to Peer. Free Mentoring Service to those living with mental illness and their families. Mental illness can affect persons of any age, gender, race, religion or income. NAMI Utah offers Mentoring, a free service providing those living with mental illness and their families a peer who can listen, empathize, and connect them to valuable education/support programs and other resources. Our mentors strive to keep current on the services provided by our community partners, so we are better prepared to meet the needs of those who call us for help. Waterford Upstart
Waterford.org is an early education nonprofit with a mission to achieve universal literacy for preschool children through equity, access, and family empowerment. We provide Waterford Upstart, an instructional software program to be used 15 minutes per day, 5 days a week, guiding children along a personalized path to learn the fundamentals of literacy and math/science. The Utah legislature is funding our program and completely FREE to families who are accepted. Waterford Upstart can be an extra resource for children as they attend preschool to provide a boost in kindergarten readiness or an option to alter preschool online. Computer and internet are also provided if needed. Qualifications for this are described below.
- Parent/Guardian submitting the enrollment application through our website: https://www.waterford.org/upstart/pre-qualify/ or by phone at 1-888-982-9898.
- A child born between September 2, 2016 – September 1, 2017
- Family/Household below 185% in FPL for those interested in receiving a computer or internet on loan
- The last day to submit the registration application is October 29, 2021.
- Program runs from Sep 13, 2021- May 29, 2022.
- Once the child is accepted we provide family support to the parents so they can help guide them through the year. We provide support in English and Spanish.
